![]() It is good to keep the Dewalt 18v to 20v adapter clean after every use so as to rid it of any clogging that may come about because of debris. Especially for some different 18v powertools that may have a different design for the battery placement area. The problem is that they do not (on occasion) seem to work well. These are the clips (or holders) on the Dewalt 18v to 20v adapter that help hold the adapter into place when inserted into a 18v powertool. There is an extra ridge(s) on the higher ampere hour batteries (as compared to lower ampere batteries) that hinder the insertion of them into the adapter such that they stop half way.The Dewalt 18v to 20v adapter is only for 5Ah 20v batteries, so this critical distinction is important to take not of when purchasing a battery or the adapter itself. Most commonly from 6Ah 20v batteries and higher. Causing the battery to tighten to the adapter.Īlthough the Dewalt 18v to 20v adapter is a 20v adapter ( it says so in the name) some 20v batteries do not fit. Debris and dirt can easily cling onto these areas. It is also important to keep the Dewalt 18v to 20v adapter clean, especially on parts that interlock and slide into or with the battery. It’s important to press the release button (large button in front of all 20v batteries) when attempting to release the battery from the adapter. The batteries can get stuck in their placement. Which can be an even bigger problem if the 20v battery needs to be used urgently on another 20v powertool.Īlthough the Dewalt 18v to 20v was made for 20v batteries. When the 20v battery is placed into the Dewalt 18v to 20v adapter this problem sees the battery being hard to remove from the adapter. It is relatively cheaper to replace an 18v battery than it would be to buy a new adapter. In such a case using a 18v battery with a Dewalt 18v tablesaw would be good enough. A problem if you’re sawing a long piece of wood but can only go pass a certain point because the adapter adds size to the battery, making it hit against the wood thus making the tablesaw unmoveable. And with some powertools that require a large work area and distance like the Dewalt 18v tables tablesaw, the Dewalt 18v to 20v adapter gets in the way. Meaning from someone else’s point of view, you have two batteries stacked one on top of another. It may be lighter than the 20v battery it attachs to, but it is objectively the same size as one. This would actually save you money if you sold the old saw.The Dewalt 18v to 20v adapter makes powertools (like the hand drill) a lot bulkier and uglier. your getting less batteries, but more battery power with the 5.0, so another amp hour of runtime if the adapter set comes with 2.0 batteries. Yea, the bare tool saw is only $99 right now.Īnother option, on sale for only $20 more than your adapter kit - you can get the new 20v saw, with charger, 5.0 battery, and soft case. There may be more to your situation, but just off what you posted, buying new seems like more for your money. Just doesn't seem to make sense to lay out the money on the adapter kit to keep 1 tool going that you can replace for less money. If there is ever gonna be a time to upgrade tools and get the most for your money spent, this is it.Ī bare tool 20v Dewalt saw should be cheaper than the adapter kit if you already have 20v stuff and batteries. Just making the point, you have options here. I was in the same boat, and upgraded to the Milwaukee m18 system. ![]() IMO, The adapter kit only makes sense for people that have a large collection of older Dewalt tools. MOST people use the opportunity to upgrade into a new system. ![]() Even sold for $40 for each tool, you won't be far away from the money you'd spend out of pocket anyway - but with new tools and an impact driver and flashlight too. You can sell what you have on eBay to put towards it. ![]() This 4 tool kit is on sale, $100 off, for $249. The adapter kit you're looking at is $129 with the small batteries. A new sawzall bare tool would be under $100 I think. Just putting this out there, but for the cost of the batteries, adapter, and charger, - you are not far away from a new drill kit, with batteries and charger, or maybe even a drill impact combo kit on sale. I'll leave it up anyway for other people since sales are posted, and someone else might be in a similar situation. Edit - I posted all this assuming you were gonna buy the adapter "kit", and not just the $40 adapter.
